Alumni re-connect 20/11/2023

Healthy Bites Society of Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, UIAHS, Chandigarh University organized an Alumini Talk entitled “Wings of a Dietitian” for all the batches of the students of UG courses and PG courses on 4th Feb 2025. The speaker for the event was Ms. Anjali Sindhu from 21 BND batch. The aim was to provide a platform for interactive discussions regarding academic, career, or personal development and know-hows for getting industry ready.

Expert Talk and Workshop on Cancer Awareness

On February 7th, 2024, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, organized a significant event in observance of World Cancer Day. Collaborating with the Women Development Cell and the University Institute of Nursing, the event aimed to raise awareness about cancer among the students and faculty. The venue for this enlightening session was the D7 Block UIAHS. Dr. Vandita Pahwa, a distinguished expert from the oncology department of Homi Bhabha Research Institute and Hospital Mohali, along with Dr. Shikha and her team, spearheaded the event.

Millet Mela: Nourish right- Millet Fiesta

On November 6th, 2023, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Chandigarh University hosted an event focused on the preparation of millet-based products, including cookies, cakes, and premixes in Millet Mela: Nourish right- Millet Fiesta. The event served as a platform for students to showcase their culinary skills and promote the nutritional benefits of millets. School students were invited to participate in recipe competition, Library Quiz, expert talks.

Expert talk - Use of Technology in Nutrition Counselling

Mr. Kapil Bhutani, CEO and Founder, Health Squad Pvt. Ltd. was the speaker for an expert lecture on “Use of Technology in Nutrition Counselling” underscoring the myriad benefits of integrating technology into nutrition counselling, ranging from enhanced accessibility and convenience to improved patient outcomes and adherence. The inherent challenges associated with this paradigm shift, including digital literacy barriers, data privacy concerns, and regulatory complexities were also discussed.

Dr. Madhu Sharma discussed nutrition for women where she explained in detail, the impact of nutrition on women’s health. She enlightened the students about the various myths and facts, people are unaware about regarding women’s health and nutritional requirement. She also emphasized the need of breakfast and guided students about ingredients of healthy milk, fruits and cereals. Students got the opportunity to learn and enlightened about various aspects of women’s health and their queries were also adequately addressed by Dr. Sharma.

Students of b.sc nutrition and dietetics visited sas nagar, gharuan, where they analyzed people there, their nutritional status, their health and wellness, their hygiene levels and also spread awareness regarding these issues among them by counselling them thoroughly.

Awareness session was conducted at Jyoti Swaroop Kanya Ashram was to enlighten the girls towards child abuse, which may occur in schools, colleges, hostels, inhabited care facilities, on the roads, and n places of custody and localities. Simultaneously, the children were awakened about small preventive measures to safeguard their own self. The girls made aware about Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, Posco act and various helpline umbers Chandigarh central police – 2773951,Women and child helpline - 1091 and 2705011,Childline India foundation – 1098, Emergency number – 100.Students With Kanya Ashram Inmates
